  • What Is Enrichment

Enrichment is the process of adding to your dog’s life in a way that builds confidence, reduces stress, increases dopamine, fulfills prey drive, and offers mental stimulation. More than training; this is where dogs - and our relationship with them - can flourish.

Through our curated curriculum of enrichment activities and games hand-selected for your pup, we are able to provide outlets for frustration, build engagement, and support your dog and the lifestyle they need while complimenting the lifestyle you have. Enrichment should lead to a decrease in behavioral issues and an increase in a dog’s ability to truly rest.

What does an Enrichment Day entail?

Each enrichment day includes a potty break, a walk when weather permits, and an enrichment activity.

Our activity curriculum has been designed to rotate seasonally, with 4 themes being presented across the year. Within those seasons, there is an array of opportunities for dogs to explore, learn, develop, and engage. We are also able to partner with other local businesses to offer Field Trips that compliment these themes!

What kind of activities do we include?

We focus on activities designed to allow your dog to experience satisfaction in what trainers call a “prey sequence.” All dogs possess a prey drive in some capacity, although how it presents itself will vary depending on the dog, its genetics, and its upbringing. What could that look like for your dog? Perhaps chasing a flirt pole, digging in a ball pit, catching bubbles, playing Hide & Seek, Strategic Tug*, or even navigating an obstacle course. Even if you do not think that your dog has ANY play or prey drive, our Coaches are almost 100% able to find a way to work with your dog to build one. We work as a team with you, your dog, and your Coach to develop a strategy that is fulfilling for your dog!

All activities are scaffolded to your dog’s physical, mental, and emotional needs. Please discuss with your coach any medical or physical accommodations we need to be aware of in advance - we will have an in-depth consultation prior to the first scheduled enrichment day wherein we can develop a plan specifically for your pup.

To Eat or Not To Eat

Some days your coach may request that you either withhold breakfast or only give a portion of the meal - whaaaaat?! Yes, you heard us - we want your dog hungry! Why? All mammals produce a peptide hormone called ghrelin as hunger increases. We are able to use the natural ghrelin production in your dog’s body to assist in the enrichment process. Your coach will utilize the rest of the meal as part of the enrichment activity. Ghrelin reduction through eating triggers dopamine release; we use this to strategically satisfy your dog’s biological need to sniff, stalk, catch, kill, and consume prey. When we meet these needs through strategic play, other behaviors we deem problematic (chewing, barking, pacing, reactivity, over-excitement) diminish.

Disclaimer: Sessions may be shortened due to extreme weather conditions at the discretion of the coach. Additionally, we will follow local school closings related to weather.
